SUMMARY:Antizionist Strategies: New Directions
DESCRIPTION:The Northeast Section of the Academic Engagement NetworkHosted by Sergei Kan at Dartmouth College with the co-sponsorship of the CUNY Alliance for InclusionPresents \n\n\n\nIzabella Tabarovsky \n\n\n\nSenior Fellow with the Z3 Institute and a fellow with the London Centre for the Studyof Contemporary Antisemitism and ISGAP\, and Senior Advisor\, to the Kennan Institute at the Wilson Center \n\n\n\nAnti-Israel demonstrations on elite campuses have captured most of the public attention since October 7. But arguably the more important strategic antizionist work happens in spaces that rarely draw media attention. What are the key forward-looking items on antizionist groups’ agendas? What strategies and methods are they pursuing? This discussion will seek to unpack these questions and begin to consider what needs to be done to address them. \n\n\n\nZoom link: https://dartmouth.zoom.us/j/92136240490?pwd=9Pof1mXrwiwNNI67v6fJOz2moYkuky.1Meeting ID:921 3624 0490Passcode:835929

SUMMARY:The Illusion of Inclusion: Collaborative Solutions for Performative Diversity
DESCRIPTION:Antisemitisms\, Past and Present: How They are Manifested at CUNY \n\n\n\nFlorette Cohen\, College of Staten IslandDavid Brodsky\, Brooklyn CollegeJonathan Epstein\, John Jay CollegeIlya Bratman\, Baruch College \n\n\n\nThis panel places antisemitism in its historical and cultural context\, explores its psychological roots\, and discusses ways the offices of DEI can engage to support civility on campus. The first talk discusses the ways Jews have historically been used as a foil for that which society anathematizes\, which explains why the Jewish state would become charged with the abominations of racism and colonialism. Through a history of antisemitism\, the presenter will offer guidance to distinguish between legitimate and antisemitic criticism of Israel. The second talk presents several studies which show that reminders of death increase antisemitism. The results suggest that Jews constitute a cultural threat to people’s worldview. The last two talks will focus on the campus climate for students and faculty at CUNY and upon actions by the PSC-CUNY. Finally\, we will suggest how to improve the climate and combat antisemitism. \n\n\n\n\nhttps://vimeo.com/818771313?fl=pl&fe=ti
